On Friday, June 21st at 6pm, Vale Cemetery will host a Juneteenth celebration at the African American Ancestral Burial Ground. Juneteenth commemorates the last slaves freed under the Emancipation proclamation, June 19th, 1865.
Tours, unless otherwise noted, start at 2 p.m. from the Caretaker's Cottage adjacent to the main entrance on State Street.
There is ample parking available and due to the size of the cemetery/park a shuttle bus is used. There is a $10 donation requested with children under 12 free.
